WILD MUSHROOMS

Khao Sok National Park Mushrooms thrive along every trail.

As you venture into Khao Sok National Park, you’ll find yourself surrounded by one of the oldest rainforests on Earth. The park’s rich biodiversity, nurtured by its limestone karst landscape and abundant rainfall, creates the perfect environment for an incredible variety of fungi. Throughout the forest, you’ll encounter clusters of wild mushrooms in all shapes, sizes, and colors — from delicate white caps peeking through the leaf litter to vibrant red and orange fungi growing on fallen logs.

Cookeina sulcipes

These vibrant, cup-shaped mushrooms are commonly found in tropical and subtropical forests, including Khao Sok National Park. Growing in small clusters on decaying wood, Cookeina sulcipes adds a splash of color to the forest floor. Beyond their striking appearance, these fungi play a vital ecological role by accelerating the decomposition of fallen branches and tree stumps, helping to recycle nutrients back into the rainforest ecosystem.

  • After a refreshing rain, vibrant caps emerge through the damp grass.
  • On decaying stumps, fiery orange clusters spread across the bark.
  • Beneath the fallen leaves, bright caps gently push their way through.
  • Along tree trunks, rippling ridges jut out like natural shelves.

All of these are the fruiting bodies of mushrooms and fungi. No matter where you walk in Khao Sok, mushrooms seem to flourish everywhere.

Collecting mushrooms and fungi within Khao Sok National Park is strictly prohibited. Please leave them undisturbed, allowing everyone to appreciate their natural beauty.
