History of Ratchaprapha Dam, Surat Thani Thailand

Ratchaprapha Dam, originally known as Cheow Lan Dam, was built by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Construction started in 1982 and was completed in 1987. The dam stands 94 meters tall and spans around 761 meters in length. It serves vital functions, including hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, fisheries, and tourism.

The dam also promotes tourism by offering activities like boat tours on the lake, overnight stays in floating bungalows, and scenic hikes through lush nature trails, making it a favored destination for both local and international travelers.
